Privacy

This site is run by Make Things That Matter LLC, which is responsible for the data described here. This page explains what it collects, why, and what you can do about it. Questions or requests go to info@thestrategycycle.com.

What the site collects

Your email, if you give it. When you join the list or sign up for a free resource, your email goes to Kit (formerly ConvertKit), the service that sends my emails, and to Substack, which sends my essays. I use them to send book news, resources, essays and my newsletter. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

How the site is used. With your permission where it’s required (see below), Google Analytics records which pages you visit, which links you click, your rough location, your device and browser, and the site that sent you. It uses cookies to tell new visits from return visits.

Advertising. With your permission where it’s required, the site uses the Google Ads tag, the Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) and the X Pixel. They use cookies and similar tools to record visits and clicks on the buy links. That lets me measure my ads and show ads for the book to people who have visited this site. Google, Meta and X may combine this with other data they hold about you, under their own privacy policies.

Server logs. The site is hosted on Netlify, which logs basic request data such as IP address and browser type, as most web hosts do. Netlify also tells the site which country you’re visiting from, so it knows whether to ask for consent first. The site stores only the result (for example “ask first”), not your IP address or location.

Where you end up when you buy

“Get the book” links go through Geniuslink, which sends you to the right Amazon store for your country. Geniuslink and Amazon each have their own privacy policies. I don’t see what you buy.

These are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.

Visitors in Europe, the UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, or the site can’t tell where you are, Google Analytics, the Google Ads tag, the Meta Pixel and the X Pixel don’t load unless you click Accept in the cookie banner. Elsewhere they load by default, and you can switch them off with Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. The advertising tags never load if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.

Your choices

  • Use to accept or turn off analytics and advertising on this site.
  • Unsubscribe from email with the link at the bottom of any message.
  • Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser to switch off the advertising tags everywhere it’s supported.
  • Manage Google ads at My Ad Center, and block Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out add-on.
  • Manage Meta ads in your Facebook ad preferences.
  • Manage X ads in your X ads preferences.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them.
  • Email info@thestrategycycle.com to see, correct or delete the data I hold about you.

If you’re in the EU, UK or Switzerland

I use ad and analytics cookies only with your consent, which you can withdraw anytime in . I use your email address to send what you signed up for, and server logs to keep the site running and secure. I keep your email while you’re subscribed and for normal business records. Google keeps ad audiences for up to 540 days, Meta for up to 180. My providers are in the US, so your data goes there. You can also object to or limit how I use your data, get a copy of it, and complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

This site is meant for working professionals and isn’t aimed at children under 13.
